Roy W. Coons, Sr., 77, of Moline, Illinois, passed away on Friday, November 6, 2026 at Charter Senior Living in Moline.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 9, 2026 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf, Iowa. Private committal services will be held at Rock Island National Cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.

Roy was born October 14, 1949, the son of Harold W. & Margaret (Kelso) Coons. A graduate of Rock Island High School, Roy entered the United States Army, serving proudly for over 27 years active and in the Reserves.

He was united in marriage to Debra A. Aiello on August 23, 1991 in Davenport, Iowa. She preceded him in death on March 17, 2016.

Roy was retired from the Alcoa Company as a crane operator. He enjoyed fishing, playing Cribbage and was particularly proud of his patriotic service to his country.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Matthew (Brooke) Coons of Geneseo, Illinois, Dustin Coons of Moline, Illinois, Terri (Joe) Elliff of East Moline, Illinois, Casey (Tammy) Coons of Columbus Junction, Iowa, Roy (Katie) Coons Jr. of Colona, Illinois and Harold Coons of East Moline; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Carol DeBord of Silvis, Illinois and Doris Peterson of Bushnell, Illinois.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Ron Coons.
