Sandra Nelson

Sandra K. Nelson, 74, of Bettendorf passed away peacefully on Friday, February 24, 2023 at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport, surrounded by her family.

Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.  A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 10th at Fairmount Cemetery, Davenport.  Those attending should meet at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Friday morning to follow in procession to the cemetery.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Memorials may be directed to the family.

Sandy was born on May 17, 1948 in Wheatland, Iowa, the daughter of Francis and Gladys (Deppe) Sanders.  She achieved her nursing degree and worked at various hospitals in the Dubuque, Maquoketa, and Bellevue area.  Sandy then worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator.  She later returned to nursing and was employed at Bettendorf Healthcare Center prior to her retirement.  She enjoyed music, playing Bingo, camping, and fishing.

Those left to honor her memory are her six children, Jerald (Ginger) Nelson, Tommy (Evelyn) Nelson, Elizabeth Kelch, Saint (Michelle) Nelson, Tonya (Mike Robinson) Nelson, Fern (Lawrence) Martinez; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert (Nancy) Dilley.

In addition to her parents, Gladys and Don Dilley, she was preceded in death by brothers, Francis Sanders and Don (Doris) Dilley; and a grandson.

The family would like to thank their cousin, Kirk Fifer, for his unconditional love, care, and attention that he gave to Sandy over the years.
