Susan M. Houseman

Susan M. Houseman, 78, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

A private service will be held for her family at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. In honor of Sue’s deep love for animals, memorial contributions may be made to King’s Harvest Pet Rescue or to a no-kill animal shelter close to your heart.

Born on January 31, 1947, in Rock Island, Illinois, Sue was the daughter of Robert J. and Juanita M. (Mason) Leins. In 2001, she proudly earned her degree in Theology from St. Ambrose University and was ordained as a Commissioned Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

Sue touched countless lives through her years of devoted service as Chaplain and Director of Pastoral Care at Ridgecrest Village in Davenport. Even after retiring, she continued her calling at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, where she was both an administrative assistant and chaplain. Her warmth, compassion, and sense of purpose left a lasting impression on her colleagues and the many families she supported.

Outside of her ministry, Sue enjoyed the simple joys of life—curling up with a good book, working on her knitting, and always finding time to care for others.

She leaves behind her loving son, Scott Houseman of Bettendorf, and her cherished grandson, Matthew Houseman of Silvis, Illinois.

Sue is reunited in peace with her parents and her dearly loved dogs, Abbie and Mandi.
