Susie M. Sumstine

Susan M. Sumstine, 73, of LeClaire, Iowa, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, June 5, 2025 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in LeClaire. Memorials may be made to MercyOne Genesis Hospice.

Susie was born January 2, 1952 in Kankakee, Illinois, the daughter of Charles F. & Doris M. (Gehrke) Ortman. She was a 1970 graduate of Alleman High School in Rock Island, Illinois. Susie was united in marriage to Steven W. Sumstine on January 29, 1983 in Bettendorf.

Susie had been a contract specialist with the Rock Island Arsenal. She and Steve were members of the Mid-West Deuces, Good Guys and NSRA car clubs. She enjoyed hot rodding, traveling, writing and playing tennis and pickleball. Most of all, Susie adored the time spent with her grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Steve; her daughters, Laurie Schadler of Bettendorf, Jennifer (William) Hinsberger of Bettendorf, Michele (Tim) Gosau of Hamburg, Germany and Stacy (Vygis) Gaucys of Dallas, Texas; her grandchildren, Nicole (Jay) Huettman, Spencer Wise, Cameron (Alyssa) Wise, Zachary Pessman, Madeline Schadler, Jasper Wise, Carter Schadler, Holly, Lucy & Henry Gosau, Matthew Hinsburger and Justin Hinsburger; her great grandchildren, Lainey Huettman, Rinsley Hinsberger & Jace, Haven and Kora Hinsberger; her sisters, Margie Tallman, Sally (Dennis) Chapman, Ann Dorn, Kathy Regal and Linda (Greg) Van Erstvelde; her sisters-in-law, Elaine Ortman and Linda Gonzalez; her brother, Charlie (Judy) Ortman; her brother-in-law, Gary Meyer; and her close friends, Carol, Sandy, Danita

Susie was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Dick Ortman, Mary Kay Meyer, Bill Ortman, Kevin Regal, Vic Dorn; and her nephew, M. Charlie Delp.
