Terence “Terry” Walter Rigby, 78, our steady, beloved dad, the anchor of our family, passed on from worldly cares at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Thursday, May 22nd. Visitation will be held from 10:30a.m. – 1:30p.m. on Wednesday, June 4th at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. A graveside service will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery.
Terry was born September 19, 1946 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, raised in Pocahontas, Iowa, the third of nine children born to John and Dorothy (Donahue) Rigby. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as part of the 101st Airborne Division. After returning home, he made his home in Bettendorf. Terry founded Rigby Construction and Maintenance and spent his time diligently fighting for DAV rights as a state commander. He was passionate about the values of Republican politics, and served as the 5th Ward Alderman for the City of Bettendorf during the 1980’s and early 1990’s. Later in life, Terry went on to obtain his Masters degree in Organizational Leadership from St. Ambrose University.
Terry was a dedicated father and grandpa. He loved his children unconditionally, with a fierce, self-sacrificing love. His guidance and unwavering support has rooted his children and their families in resiliency. Terry’s faith in Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was steadfast. His Bible, was never far from reach and served as his guide during all his trials and tribulations. His faith was to be admired.
Those left to honor his memory are his children, Erin Rigby of Dubuque, Iowa, Shannon (Nathan) Numkena of Bettendorf, Emily (Kyle) Rigby of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Caleb Rigby of Bettendorf; his seven grandchildren, Gabe (Ary) Rigby, Tynan, Ronan, & Bronwyn Numkena, Callahan & Waylon Slater, and Raelyn Rigby; a great-granddaughter, Indi Rigby; siblings, Michael “Mick” (Joann) Rigby, Patricia Rigby, Betty (Al) Beekman, Kay Smith, Tim Rigby, and Mary Fredericksen; and copious amounts of nieces and nephews.
Thank you, Dad, for all of it. It is all because you loved us.
