Thomas R. Wheeler

Thomas R. Wheeler, a precious husband, dad, grandpa & friend passed away at his home in Davenport on Thursday, May 2, 2024.

A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, May 17, 2024, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf, Iowa.  A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the Izaak Walton League, 8402 N. Harrison St. in Davenport.  Memorials may be made to the family. Please dress casually and feel free to wear your Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs or Chicago Bears attire.

Thomas was born in Davenport on October 21, 1945, the son of David and Juanita (Smith) Wheeler.  On August 20, 1971, he was united in marriage to Charlotte Thompson in Davenport.

He was employed as a grain unloader at the Ralson-Purina Company in Davenport, retiring several years ago after 40 years of faithful service.

In his spare time, he loved to play bingo and trivia, enjoyed local dirt car racing and was always there for his grandchildren’s events and activities.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Charlotte; his daughter, Shelley (Mark) Sterbenz of Davenport; his son, Jason (Krista) Wheeler of New Smyrna, Florida; his grandchildren, TJ, Megan, Nicholas, Emerson, Noah and Keegan; his sisters, Sandra (Steve) Dau of Davenport, Linda Stevens of Davenport and Kathy (Fran) Eder of East Moline, Illinois; along with many other relatives and wonderful friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his brothers, David, Robert and Bruce; and by his parents.
