Travis L.
Schneden
Sep 5, 1946 — Jul 16, 2026
Travis Schneden, 79, passed away surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and friendships. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus or a charity of the donor’s choice. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on September 5, 1946, in Davenport, Iowa, Travis was the son of Emil and Grace Schneden. He was raised in Davenport, attended Davenport Community Schools, and graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1964.
From a young age, Travis had a passion and talent for baseball. He played through the Davenport Little League program and continued to excel throughout high school, earning recognition as a standout pitcher for the Davenport Central Blue Devils, where he was scouted for his abilities on the mound. His love of the game remained a source of pride and many great stories throughout his life.
Following graduation, Travis proudly enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He served from 1964 to 1968 as a Military Police officer stationed in Seoul, Korea, an experience that reflected his dedication to serving his country.
On December 14, 1968, Travis married the love of his life, Nancy Hagemann, in Bettendorf, Iowa. Together they built a wonderful life, sharing 57 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. They made their home in Bettendorf, where they raised their two daughters, Doria and Amy.
Travis dedicated 36 years to Lafarge North America in Buffalo, Iowa, formerly known as Martin Marietta and Davenport Cement, before retiring. He took great pride in his work and the many friendships he made along the way.
Anyone who knew Travis knew his heart belonged to the Iowa Hawkeyes. A passionate and loyal fan, he held season football and men's basketball tickets for more than 25 years and rarely missed a game. He traveled to cheer on the Hawkeyes at the 1982 Rose Bowl in Pasadena and the 1993 Alamo Bowl in San Antonio. When he wasn't in the stands, he could usually be found at The Filling Station in Davenport, where everyone knew him as "The Trav." There, he entertained friends and strangers alike with stories from his baseball days, family adventures, and life's many celebrations including the unforgettable surprise for his and Nancy's 25th wedding anniversary. Travis never met a stranger and was always ready with a story, a laugh, or a piece of advice.
Golf was another lifelong passion. For many years, he enjoyed a standing Sunday tee time at Emeis Golf Course in west Davenport. Even after he stopped playing, his love for the game never faded. He traveled with his son-in-law, Bob to attend some of golf's most iconic tournaments, including The Masters, the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and the U.S. Open, while remaining a faithful supporter of the John Deere Classic each year.
Above all else, Travis's greatest joy was his family. Being a husband, dad, and Papa was the role he treasured most. There was nothing he wouldn't do for his daughters, Doria and Amy, or his beloved granddaughters, Molly, Aubrey, and Amelia. Whether traveling with Doria and his son-in-law Bob to golf tournaments, making magical memories at Disney World with Amy and his son-in-law Josh, vacationing in Hawaii, enjoying cruises with Nancy, or cheering from the audience or sidelines at his granddaughters' events, Travis found his greatest happiness simply being with the people he loved.
Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife of 57 years, Nancy, of Bettendorf; his daughters, Doria (Bob) Schneider of DeWitt, Iowa, and Amy (Josh) Ford of Lisbon, Iowa; his treasured granddaughters, Molly Schneider and Aubrey and Amelia Ford; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia and Roger Yates of Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Grace Schneden; his parents-in-law, Donald and Marylyn Hagemann; and his beloved dog, Taffy.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Mario Sy and the oncology team at UI Health Care, the compassionate nurses of Compassus Hospice, and the caring staff at StoryPoint Senior Living for the kindness, comfort, and exceptional care they provided throughout Travis's journey.
Travis will be remembered for his generous heart, his quick wit, his love of sports, his endless stories, and the way he made everyone feel like a friend. His legacy lives on in the family he adored and the countless lives he touched.
