Verna A. Ireland

      Verna A. Ireland, 100, of Geneseo, Illinois, formerly of LeClaire, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2025 at Allure of Geneseo. 

      A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10th at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service. Private family inurnment will be at Glendale Cemetery, LeClaire. 

      Verna was born on March 1, 1925 in Morrison, Illinois, the daughter of Clarence and Laura (Howe) Olsen. She married Lester Hayen. After Lester preceded her in death, she married D. “Arkie” Ireland on September 27, 1952 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport. Verna enjoyed playing Bingo, cards, and going to the casino. Making arts and crafts, crocheting, sewing, and dancing allowed her to share her many creative talents. Verna loved tending to her flower gardens and watching bull riding. Above all, she was a devoted wife and mother. 

      Those left to honor her memory are her daughters, Judy (Gerry) Thacker of Sun City, California, Lori (Dennis Vanderpool) Ireland of East Moline, Melody Hall of East Moline, and Kathy Ireland of Geneseo; six grandchildren, Darren, Stephaine, Brandy, Justin, Gerad, and Ashley; and eight great-grandchildren, Kevin, Devin, Kyrstin, Ayden, Blaise, Hudson, Steele, and Cheyenne. 

      In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Lester and Arkie; grandson, Dylan Hylton; daughter, Vicki Basala; and six siblings.
