William H. McDougal, 83, a resident of LeClaire, Iowa died Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at Manor Care Nursing Center, Davenport, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 P.M. Saturday, January 24, 2004 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Bettendorf or the LeClaire Volunteer Fire Department.
He was born May 2, 1920 in Racine, Wisconsin, the son of Hugh & Nona (Madden) McDougal. On July 15, 1939, he was united in marriage to Louisa L. Bender in Waucon, Iowa.
Bill was employed as a liason engineer for the J. I. Case Company of Bettendorf, retiring in 1985 after 27 years of faithful service. In earlier years, he worked for Massey-Harris Manufacturing Company in Racine for 18 years.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army with the 330th Infantry in the Ardennes, Rhineland and central Europe. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
In addition to the church, he was a member of the American Legion and the Buffalo Bill Museum, both in LeClaire.
He was a tireless worker and enjoyed helping anyone who needed a hand. He loved animals and was a man who could fix virtually anything. His family, especially his beloved grandchildren were the joy of his life. He will be deeply missed, but always fondly remembered by those who knew & loved him.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Louisa; his daughter & son-in-law, Mary Lou & Donald E. Jones of LeClaire; his grandchildren, Lynn Jones & her husband, Jeff Brimeyer, Lori Jones Shaffnit and Donald A. Jones & his wife, Sharla; six great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; his sister, Mildred Benish of Highland, Wisconsin; and his brother, Robert McDougal of Racine.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Klauser and Bernadine McDaniel.
