Alan Paul “Al” Moore, 60, of Bettendorf passed away at his residence on Sunday, November 27, 2022.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2nd at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf.  Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will be at a later date at Apostolic Cemetery in rural Clayton County, Iowa.  Memorials may be directed to the family.

Al was born on January 10, 1962 in Postville, Iowa, the son of Robert and Myrna (Laue) Moore.  Following his graduation from Fredericksburg High School in 1980, he continued his education at the University of Northern Iowa where he was a member of Phi Mu Alpha Symphonia.  In 1984, he graduated with a major in music performance and a minor in music education.  He then worked towards his Master’s degree at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  After several years of teaching, he made a career as an educational representative for Rieman Music, and Griggs Music, now West Music.  On September 28, 1996, he was united in marriage to Johnna K. Miller in Newton, Iowa and together they raised two children and are members of Asbury United Methodist Church.

Al’s profound passion for music and playing the tuba was passed along to countless students through the years.  He impacted numerous musicians in developing their own successful careers in music and performance.  In the 1990’s, Al founded Quad City Tuba Christmas which is still a beloved holiday event.  His other passion was spending time outdoors.  He spent much of his free time fishing, hunting deer and turkey, and mushroom and fossil hunting.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Johnna Moore of Bettendorf; children, Siouxzee (Forrest Thompson) Moore of Joice, Iowa, Evan Moore of Davenport; five grandchildren, Madison, Amelia, Briana, Hailey, and Aria Thompson, all of Joice; his mother, Myrna Moore of Fredericksburg, Iowa; his sister, Nancy (David) Zittergruen of Chaska, Minnesota; mothers-in-law, Janice Miller of Newton and Marilyn Conrad of Colfax, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Teri Miller (Randy Wingert)of Ft. Dodge, Iowa and Michelle (Kent) Deal of Colfax; and his nieces and nephews, Grace, Michael, Nicholas, Andrea, Ashton, Joseph, and Rachel.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Moore; his infant son, Ethan Moore; and fathers-in-law, David Miller and Doug Conrad.
