Dr. Majdi Omar

It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Dr. Majdi A. Omar, M.D., husband to Nihaya Omar. He returned to Allah on November 27th, 2022 at 4:05 AM after a year long battle with liver cancer complications. Services were held on Monday, November 28th, 2022, at the Muslim Community of the Quad Cities in Bettendorf, Iowa. His burial took place at Pinehill Cemetery in Davenport, Iowa.

Dr. Omar was born on September 24th, 1962 in Kuwait City, Kuwait. He is the son of Abdelqader Omar and Awneyeh Halaweh.

Dr. Omar married Nihaya Omar on September 19, 1990, in Kuwait City, Kuwait. He received his medical degree from Kuwait University Faculty of Medicine and completed his pediatric residency at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines. Dr. Omar has been in practice for more than 30 years in the state of Iowa and currently worked for and was owner of Quad Cities Pediatrics, P.C. in Davenport, Iowa.

Dr. Omar was a special man. He was a loving father, husband, brother, son, and physician. He was a passionate, caring, generous, and loving soul whose light was felt by all those who knew him. Dr. Omar led his life in such a way that his impact will be felt for decades to come. There was not a moment in his life that was wasted; as each and every action was intentional and served God. He loved people and saw the best in everyone around him. He loved all children and handled their care as if they were his own. He never shied away from challenging cases and believed in representing God’s mercy by going the extra mile for his patients.

Dr. Omar was a philanthropic man. He was a member of Doctors without Borders, the Syrian American Medical Society, the Jordan Medical Society, a member of the Stead Family Children’s Hospital of Iowa City, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a member of the Muslim Community of the Quad Cities. Dr. Omar served in refugee camps around the world for many years and was a firm believer in using his knowledge and expertise to improve the lives of children globally.

Dr. Omar was a beautiful writer, historian, and intellectual. From a young age he possessed many talents and excelled academically. He loved to travel the world, spend time with his loved ones, and play with his three grandchildren. He was an avid reader and a lover of art in all its forms. Dr. Omar was relentless in the pursuit of his ambitions and dreams. He was dedicated, resilient, diligent, influential, fair, and above all else- fearless. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him, but his legacy will remain and live on.

Survivors include his wife, Nihaya Omar of Bettendorf, Iowa; daughter Muna Omar and her spouse Ahmad Abu Afifeh of Iowa, daughter Lubna Omar and her spouse Islam Alyafawi of Iowa, son Waleed Omar and his wife Deema Martini of Illinois, three grandchildren, Khaled Abu Afifeh, Noor Abu Afifeh, and Yara Alyafawi, mother, Awneyeh Halaweh, sisters, Ahlam Omar and Amani Omar, and brothers, Amjad Omar, Ayman Omar, and Ashraf Omar.

He was preceded in death by his father, Abdelqader Omar.
