Edward Berner

September 2, 1953 — December 7, 2021

Davenport

Edward C. “Ed” Berner, 68, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died suddenly and unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack on Tuesday morning, December 7, 2021.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Masks will be expected and dress is super casual, like jeans and sweatshirts.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital (Ed loved “The Wave” during the home football games) or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

He was born in Cresco, Iowa on September 2, 1953 to Howard and P. Joyce (Jones) Berner.  The family moved to Davenport when Ed was only 1.  He graduated from Davenport Central High School and started working at M.A. Ford/Miracle Tool where he eventually retired in 2018 after 47 years of faithful service.

Ed married Jodie Heald Fuller in 1982 and together, they welcomed a son, Brandon.  They later divorced but always remained friends.

Ed had many families, his blood family, his Circle Tap family and the M.A. Ford family.  But his friends family was his favorite.  He never met a stranger and always said, “If I can make one person laugh today, my job is done.”  His proudest moments in life were when his son, Brandon was born and secondly, when his granddaughter, Brooklynn was born.

He was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears and especially loved Coach Mike Ditka.

Ed and Connie loved to travel our country. He loved our National Parks and enjoyed sharing them with his son Brandon and granddaughter Brooklynn. A trip to Denali with his sister Colleen was a true adventure. If you were ever in a room with Ed and his brother Denny you were definitely entertained. His dad Howard and mom Joyce with his extended family are his roots and brought him joy. His many friendships meant the world to him.

Those left to honor his memory include his son, Brandon of Davenport; his granddaughter, Brooklynn of Davenport; his sister, Colleen Berner of Davenport; his sister-in-law, Cindy Berner of Davenport; his best friend, Neil Backus of Alliance, Nebraska; several extended family members; and the love of his life, Connie Gregg of Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Denny; his step-daughter, Heather; and by his parents.
