Elsie Hornbuckle

Elsie M. Hornbuckle, 84, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa passed away on Monday, September 9, 2019 in the home of her beloved caregiver and daughter, Tammy.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Friday, September 13, 2019 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home.  Family graveside services will take place at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the family

She was born on August 23, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Anna (Fannelli) Ransom.  On May 18, 1954, Elsie was united in marriage to Louis B. Hornbuckle in Rock Island, Illinois.  He preceded her in death on July 2, 1999.

Elsie retired from the Bettendorf Hy-Vee Bakery where she had been a faithful employee for many years.

She enjoyed porcelain dolls, caring for her flowers and never missed an episode of “The Young and the Restless.” Her beloved cat, “Toby” was a great companion to Elsie and stayed with her until the very end.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Tammy Hornbuckle of Bettendorf and Deborah Bailey of York, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband.
