A rosary and memorial service will be held in Karin’s honor at St Anthony Catholic Church, Davenport, IA, on Saturday October 8, 2022, at 10:00 am. Family will greet friends on Saturday from 9:00 am to 10:00 at the church. Burial will follow at Oakdale Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Davenport, IA.

Karin May Ficke Cook – passed from this world September 16, 2022, at The Kahl Home Davenport, IA following a brief battle with cancer.

Born September 5, 1948, Karin was the daughter of Parker and Dorothy Ficke and sister to Janice Ficke Walker. She spent much of her childhood and early adulthood traveling internationally with her parents.

Karin graduated high school from St. Katherines school for girls in preparation for college. She then attended Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa where she studied journalism. She graduated from Sawyer College of Business in Davenport, IA with a n Associates Degree.

Karin married Michael Leonard Cook (Mick), April 21, 1997, in Oldham England.  The couple shared many things specifically their faith and love for Jesus Christ and the Roman Catholic Church.  Additionally, they shared their artistic talent in statue restoration and photography.  While on a pilgrimage to Medjugore, Bosnia Herzegovina, Karin learned the art and skill of making exquisite rosaries which became her ministry.

In her early years, Karin worked as a legal secretary, in jewelry sales, jewelry design and later made her own line of jewelry.

A writer since childhood, Karin spent many years developing her favorite passion and became a published author of both print and eBooks.

Perhaps one of the closest things to Karins heart was adoption.  As an adopted child, Karin met her birth father, stepmother and multiple siblings at the age of 35.  Siblings left behind to mourn her passing Janice Ficke Walker, Dan Ide (Linda), Michael Osmun (Bev), Debra (Osmun) Hoovler, Jack Ide, Jeff Ide, Patty Ide and Andrew Ide.  Additionally, she leaves behind several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.  Karin had many beloved and cherished friends who shared life with her including those within her church family.

Karin is proceeded in death by maternal and paternal grandparents and great grandparents, parents Parker and Dorothy Ficke, birth father Harley and birth stepmother Ann Osmun, sister Linda Osmun Lykam, great nephew Jalen Litscher.
