Kenneth Spranger

June 2, 1940 — August 4, 2022

Kenneth Robert Spranger, 82, of Davenport went home peacefully, with family by his side, at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics on Thursday, August 4, 2022. A private celebration of life and burial will be held at a later date.  Memorials may be directed to the 180 Zone, Davenport.  McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ken was born in Davenport on June 2, 1940 to Kenneth and Louise (Clifton) Spranger. He attended Davenport Public Schools and graduated from Davenport High School in the class of 1958. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force and spent most of his enrollment at Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona. Ken was a 1970 graduate of the University of Iowa and became a teacher at Hempstead High School in Dubuque, Iowa. He later worked as a real estate broker in Dubuque and Davenport until retirement.

Whether it was fishing, golfing, camping or just a simple weenie roast, Ken had the gift of creating life long memories for his children and grandchildren. Later in life, Ken cherished conversation over a morning coffee or an evening campfire. Ken was a passionate volunteer at the 180 Zone.

For 28 years, Ken was married to his high school sweetheart, Marjorie (Waage) Spranger. Together they raised five children – sons, Todd (Kim) Spranger, Mark (Mary) Spranger and Jeff (Andrea) Spranger; daughters, Libby (Steve) Wilson and Kim (Joe) Lundry. “Big Kenny” was a grandpa to 13 grandchildren - Lauren, Tucker and Will Spranger, Grant (Lauren) Spranger, Sydney Spranger, Sam and Carly Lundry, Carl, Ellie, Everett and Pearl Spranger, and Ben and Jonah Wilson. Ken has one sister, Beverly Dillon.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
