Private family funeral services for Leonard Wayne John, 76, of Eldridge, Iowa, will take place at a later date at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, Iowa. Inurnment will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery, Davenport, where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion #26.

Leonard passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at his home, Eldridge. Lenny was born on September 1, 1945, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Wayne and Ilene (Kirkpatrick) John. He married Darlene Engler in Davenport in December of 1970. He moved to Davenport, Iowa in 1969 and began working at H&W Motor Express where he retired in 1999 after 30 years.

After a one-year hiatus he worked at River Bend Transit for 10 years transporting handicap and elderly passengers. After again retiring he and Darlene began wintering in Mission, Texas where they moved to full time in 2012. In 2021 they returned to Iowa and resided in Eldridge. Lenny enjoyed traveling in their RV, golfing, and most of all his 50’s/60’s record collection.

Lenny is survived by his wife, Darlene of 51 years, sister, Pamela Stuart of California, brothers-in-law, Jim Smith of Eldridge and Darrell Engler of Long Grove, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Gary and Diane Wulf of Donahue and Bill and Kim Engler of Princeton, several nieces and nephews and great-nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by his special furry friend, Cheyenne.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister-in-law, Beverly Smith.
