Mary Williams

Mary Elizabeth Williams of Long Grove, Iowa, died September 18, 2012, in DeWitt, Iowa.  Arrangements are being handled by Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge, Iowa.

Mary was born in Tipton, Iowa, on May 19, 1924, to Monroe and Margaret (Hauck) Blazer.  She married Robert H. Williams on September 9, 1944, in Ottumwa, Iowa.

She was a pioneer in women's fitness in Davenport in the 1950's.  She graduated from Marycrest College and taught physical education at Sudlow Junior High School for 17 years.  She also worked as a private swimming instructor.

In addition to her husband, Bob, Mary is survived by her children:  Anthony (Mary) Williams, Davenport; Jeffrey (Cathy Beltz) Williams, Cincinnati, Ohio; and Ann (Vernon) Hill, Stillwater, Minnesota.  She is also survived by four grandsons, Eli (Sarah) Hill, Josiah (Emily) Hill, Tyler (Kristin) Williams, and Patrick (Kara Kesselring) Williams, and by eight great-grandchildren.  Mary was preceded in death by her parents and by her sister, Barbara Young.

Mary's family is grateful for the excellent care she received at Westwing Place in DeWitt during the final weeks of her life.  Memorials may be made in Mary's name to the organization of your choice.

Mary's life will be celebrated privately by her family.
