Mike Becker

May 28, 1962 — August 12, 2020

Mike A. Becker, 58, a resident of Riverdale, Iowa died unexpectedly after a brief illness on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, August 17, 2020 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. The service will be live-streamed on McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at 11:00 A.M. Monday.  Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Kings Harvest Pet Rescue No Kill Shelter.

Mike was born in Waukesha, Wisconsin on May 28, 1962, the son of Edward R. and Theresa J. (Ferri) Becker.  Mike was a 1980 graduate of Muskego (Wisconsin) High School and a 1985 graduate of the University of Wisconsin (Stout) with a degree in Industrial Technology.

On October 24, 1992, he was united in marriage to Heather Long in Argo, Iowa.

He was employed as the Training and Quality Assurance Manager of the Scott Emergency Communications Center for the past ten years. He had also worked for the Bettendorf Police Department as a 911 dispatcher.  He had previously served on the LeClaire, Iowa City Council, volunteered for the LeClaire Ambulance Service and Medic EMS, and the LeClaire Fire Department.

Mike was devoted to public service for many years and took great pride in serving his community in a variety of roles such as the Iowa APCO Treasurer, Iowa NENA nominating committee chair. He was instrumental in the planning of the Iowa APOC and Iowa NENA conferences.  And was also a Junior Achievement volunteer.

He was loved dearly by his family and many friends.  Always there for anyone no matter what they needed, whether it was help of any kind or just an ear to listen.  He was the rock of the family, and their biggest cheerleader.  He took the most joy in spending time with his family, close friends, and his two beloved grandsons.  His quick wit and sense of humor always made him a joy to be around; he was a master of sarcasm and dad jokes.  He loved music, especially Africa by Toto.  And nothing made him more content than watching airplanes land and take off.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Heather; his daughters, Jami (Martin) LaCroix of Davenport and Taylor Becker of Davenport; his “foster” son, Todd Malone of Davenport; his grandchildren, Presley and Theodore LaCroix; his sisters, Terry (Dean) Hegerty of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, Karen (Steven) Dohm of Muskego, Wisconsin and Lori Schneider of Lubbock, Texas; his step-father, Robert Slade of Muskego, Wisconsin; his brothers-in-law, Loren (Kari) Long of LeClaire and Barry Long of LeClaire; his sisters-in-law, Christine (Scott) Dreher of Urbandale, Iowa and Shelly Munden of Kansas City, Missouri; and many beloved nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and step-father-in-law, Carol and Jerry Walsh; and his father-in-law, Larry Long.

Condolences may be expressed to the family by viewing his obituary at www.McGinnis-Chambers.com.
