Ronald L. Anderson, 77, of Bettendorf passed away at home on Monday, January 16, 2023 in the loving care of his step-son and friend, Mark.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21st at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Bettendorf, with a memorial service beginning at 11:00 a.m.   Memorials may be directed to Bettendorf VFW or to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.  McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ron was born February 12, 1945 in Moline, Illinois, to Herman and Edna (Tribbett) Anderson.  He attended Moline High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was stationed in the Philippine Islands.  Following his honorable discharge, he married Cathy Olson in 1964 and later married Jessie Willits on January 27, 1984.  Ron worked at John Deere until his retirement in 1996.  He was a member of Bettendorf VFW and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.  Ron enjoyed being at home watching cartoons and westerns.  In his early years, Ron loved fishing, camping with his family, and a cold Hamm’s beer.

Those left to honor his memory are his children, Shirley (Charlie) Helmick of East Moline, Lenora (Lorne) Lydic of Silvis, Sherry (Brian) Rawson of Silvis, Cathy (Kevin Vanderploeg) Anderson of East Moline, and Ron Anderson Jr. of Silvis; his step-children, Bobbi Jo Smith of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Elizabeth Kimball of Aledo, David Willits of Bettendorf, and Mark Willits of Bettendorf; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Barbara (Jim) Mitchell of Thibodaux, Louisiana and Neil Anderson of East Moline; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie; siblings, Darlene, Loretta, Donald, Robert, and Jerry; and sons-in-law, Mark Kimball and Jonathan Smith.
