Velma Campbell

July 22, 1936 — February 1, 2021

Velma I. Campbell, 84, of Bettendorf passed away peacefully to rest with her Lord on Monday, February 1, 2021 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Private family graveside services will be held at Pleasant Valley Cemetery at a later date.  Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.  Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley, Iowa. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Velma was born on July 22, 1936 in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Ralph and Alice (Johnson) Sullivan.  She graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1954.  On August 25, 1956 she was united in marriage to Harold J. Campbell in Bettendorf.  Velma worked at various jobs in her younger years, but she ultimately decided to devote her life to being a wife and mother to her and Harold’s four children.

She enjoyed growing flowers, quilting, and in her early years, traveling and camping with Harold in Texas.  She was devoted to God and had a very kind heart.

Those left to honor her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Joy & Rich Peek of Blue Grass; her sons, Jay Campbell of Davenport, Bruce Campbell of Rock Island, and Chris Campbell of Hayward, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Alex, Andrew, Brad, and Sarah Peek; sister, Judy Coates; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold in July of 2020; grandsons, T.J. Campbell and Brandon Peek; brothers, Gene and Jerry Sullivan; sisters, Evelyn Otto and LaVonne Wilhoite; as well as several nieces and nephews.
