William E Lingle

December 5, 1956 ~ December 24, 2020 (age 64)

William “Bill” Eugene Lingle, 64 of Davenport, Iowa passed away Thursday Dec. 24th, at the University of Iowa Hospital from complications from the COVID-19 virus with his family by his side.

Born Dec. 5th, 1956, in Davenport, to William and Virginia (Walker) Lingle. He was the youngest of four boys.  As a young man, he was raised mainly by his mother.  He was very proud of his mother and boasted of the sacrifices she made for his family.  It was a lesson in life that helped shape him into the man he became.

In 1979, Bill met the love of his life, Char Gorsh.  They married November 28th, 1986

Bill lived life to the fullest.  He was a proud dad, a devoted husband, and a contributing person to his community.  Bill was the kind of person that would give the coat off his back if the person was in need.  He was a protector and a man set to do right by his family.

Above his living room door, a wooden plaque read, “Any man can be a father, but it takes a someone special to be a Dad.”  It was a principle that Bill Lingle lived by.  He was an amazing and active Dad.  He helped organize games, fix the bicycles when they broke down, enjoyed fishing, taking drives at night, and enjoyed coaching.

Anyone that knew Bill, probably knew him from his involvement with youth sports.  He coached Friendly House basketball, travel basketball, Little League and Pony baseball.  He helped form with his family the Quad City Bronco League and the Quad City Heat baseball club.  He also helped form the Davenport Youth Football League.   He built two baseball fields and renovated another and volunteered as a groundskeeper for the Quad City Heat program for the last 18 seasons and volunteered as a groundskeeper for the Davenport Little League Softball program.

There wasn’t anything that Bill wouldn’t do for a child.  He opened his house and fostered countless children.  He and Char adopted seven children and cared for and loved them as his own.  He enjoyed taking at risk children and showing them a structured lifestyle and compassion.

Aside from his duties in life, he enjoyed music, cars, both driving and working on them, watching movies and watching live sports.

He leaves behind his wife Char, sons, Travis and Derek, his adopted children, John, Nick, Benny, Alex, Jasmine, Emma, and Kyra.  He has two brothers, Danny Lingle of Bettendorf, IA and Bruce Lingle of Eldred, PA.  He has seven grandchildren.  Amara, Madison, Parker, Camden, Kaysen, Easton, and Malina. Aunts Myra, Rolla and Janet. Proceeded in death are his parents and brother Randy.
