William E. Meeker, 69, a resident of LeClaire, Iowa passed away suddenly on Monday, April 5, 2021 at his home surrounded by his beloved family.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, April 12, 2021 at Our Lady of the River Catholic Church in LeClaire. Inurnment will follow at Glendale Cemetery in LeClaire where military honors will be accorded. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Monday at the church. Masks will be required and social distancing expected for those attending his services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Disabled American Veterans. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born in Clinton, Iowa on August 15, 1951 and served as an altar boy at Sacred Heart Church of Clinton. Bill graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in 1970 and was a U.S. Army veteran with service in Viet Nam receiving an honorable discharge in 1973. On February 16, 1974, he was united in marriage to Linda R. Long in Rock Island, Illinois.
Bill was employed as Lead Chemical Man at Johnson Manufacturing in Princeton, Iowa where he had been a faithful employee for 40 years.
His memberships included the Buffalo Bill Museum and Our Lady of the River Catholic Church.
In his spare time, he loved to play pool, enjoyed racing his Mustang at the Cordova Drag Strip, playing video games, boating on the river and trips to Mexico. Bill was a “jack of all trades” who could fix virtually anything and was always willing to lend a hand to others wherever help was needed.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Linda; his son, Todd; his mother, Dolores Derby; his father, Ed (Sandy) Meeker; his sister, Glenda Rumburg; his brothers, Terry Meeker, Glenn (Kait) Meeker and Larry (Holly) Derby; his mother-in-law, Joyce Long; Rachel, whom they considered a daughter; and many loving nieces, nephews, and longtime friends.
His father-in-law, Robert Long and his sister-in-law, Melody Tolley preceded him in death.
